When you love classical art, and you live in a wonderful city like Mantua, you cannot fail to be inspired by the great Andrea Mantegna. The artist certainly left an indelible mark on the city’s noble palaces, and the Camera degli Sposi (The Bridal Chamber) certainly stands out. When I was asked to create a painting in his style to adorn the wall behind the bed, my mind immediately went to the cherubs holding the plaque above one of the doors of the Chamber. One of them is precisely portrayed in my drawing, which also echoes the room in the appeal of the yellow curtain that opens onto the morainic hills.
